Press Release: Chelsea Flower Show 2022

Following on from the huge success of last years trade stand, Suffolk based garden design practice, Llevelo, have been invited back to design this years ‘Calm and Wellbeing’ trade stand for Harley Botanic at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Llevelo Garden Design specialise in gardens for relaxation. As a practise they feel passionately about how gardens promote wellbeing for individuals and feel that it is one of the huge positives that have come from Covid; that we all now appreciate our garden space and the positive impact it can have on our mental health.

Informal yet Elegant Planting

Llevelo are delighted to have been able to introduce the 'Calm and Wellbeing' concept as the theme for Hartley Botanic’s trade stand and it has underpinned the selection of species for planting.

The planting on the trade stand will be relatively informal and will contribute to the stands relaxed, calming atmosphere. Primarily in shades of green, the Glasshouses will be surrounded by a mix of trees, shrubs and perennials.

Planting and paving will be intertwined with the transition from one to the other being softened by the integration of gravel and low growing plants such as Soleirolia soleirolii (‘Mind-your-own-business’). Despite its relaxed ambience, the stand’s planting will still be unequivocally elegant through its limited colour palette combined with rich texture and architectural form.

The stand will include a selection of exotic plants also such as Echium and Musa – reminding visitors of the breadth of species that can be grown in a Greenhouse. The stand will focus too on subtle sensory detail, rather than big, overpowering statements and mixed herbs will offer a gentle aroma to passersby. The combination of these design details is all aimed at maximising the sense of being in relaxation garden whilst on the stand.

Stylish Calm and Wellbeing

The ‘Calm and Wellbeing’ trade stand has been designed to show how Hartley Botanic’s elegant structures can offer a calming sanctuary for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

The stand will feature three Hartley Botanic Greenhouses including a new six pane glass-to-ground Wisley 8 Grow and store in bespoke ‘Olive Grey’. Overall, all the Greenhouses and hard landscaping will be in complimentary and stylish tones of bronze and grey.

Internally, beautiful dressings such as modern chairs and small sculptures will be carefully curated while gentle classical music inside the structures will provide a relaxing soundtrack as visitors walk around the stand. The end result will be a tranquil yet luxurious look and feel.

Tom Barry, CEO of Hartley Botanic said; “Excellent design always combines both form and function, and we wanted our trade stand to showcase both the emotional benefit of owning one of our Greenhouses, and their unparalleled beauty and style when in the right context. A feeling of space was important to achieve on the trade stand, so the planting could have a greater presence - to demonstrate how our wonderful Greenhouses might look within customers’ gardens. But most importantly, we want visitors to have an emotional response. To feel calm, relaxed and to realise how a garden with a wellness focus can deliver this with style.”

Llevelo is delighted to be working alongside Stewart Landscape Construction again this year. The importance of a good relationship between designer and contractor can not be understated and will help both parties to deliver a successful stand for Hartley Botanic.
